Who we are
Kestrel AU Pty Ltd ("Kestrel AU", "we", "us") is the official Australian and New Zealand distributor of Kestrel meters. This policy explains how we collect, use, store and share your personal information when you use kestrelmeters.com.au or deal with us. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and, for New Zealand customers, the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ).
What we collect
When you place an order, contact us, register a product or sign up for updates, we may collect:
- your name, email address, phone number and postal and billing addresses
- your order details and product information, including serial numbers for warranty and support
- your communications with us
- information about how you use our website, such as device, browser and pages visited, collected through cookies
Payments are processed by Shopify and our payment providers. We do not see or store your full card details.
Information about other people
If you send an order to someone else, we collect their name, delivery address and phone number from you. We use this only to deliver the order. Please let them know you have shared their details with us for that purpose.
How we use your information
- to process and deliver your order and handle returns and refunds
- to provide warranty service and product support, which may include working with Kestrel's manufacturer in the United States
- to contact you about your order or enquiry
- to send you news and offers, if you have opted in
- to run, secure and improve our website, and to prevent fraud
- to meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run our business, and only as needed:
- our e-commerce platform, Shopify, and payment providers, including Shop Pay
- couriers and postal services, such as Australia Post and TNT
- email, analytics and advertising services, such as Google
- Kestrel's manufacturer, for warranty and support claims
- our professional advisers, and government authorities where the law requires it
Overseas disclosure
Some of these providers store or process information outside Australia, mainly in the United States and Canada, and in some cases other countries where they operate. We choose providers that have appropriate privacy and security protections in place.
Automated decisions
Our store platform automatically screens orders for fraud risk, using order, payment and address information. An order flagged as high risk may be held or cancelled. If this affects your order, contact us and a person will review it.
Cookies
Our website uses cookies to make the site work, remember your cart and preferences, understand how the site is used, and measure our advertising. You can manage cookies through the cookie banner on our site or in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works.
Marketing emails
We only send marketing emails if you have agreed to receive them. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, or you can contact us to opt out at any time.
Security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. We keep it only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as required by law, for example tax records.
Access and correction
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by contacting us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time, usually 30 days.
